The Khyber Chamber of Commerce & Industry is duly licensed under the Trade Organization Act, 2013 from the Regulator/Director General of Trade Organizations, Ministry of Commerce, incorporated with Securities Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Government of Pakistan and affiliated with Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI). The registered office of the Chamber is situated at Torkham, Khyber and the Postal/Correspondence address is Chamber Secretariat A-14, Pak Business Centre, 2nd floor G.T. Road Peshawar. Since its inception, KCCI is engaged in the encouragement of friendly, feeling, and unanimity amongst all the sectors of the Trade & Industry and other trading units. The Khyber District is the most famous tribal District amongst seven others in the Ex Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Khyber derives its name from the famous Khyber Pass. The Khyber Pass is the great northern route from Afghanistan into Pakistan. Agriculture has been the major source of sustenance besides trade. A limited cottage industry of gun manufacturing also exists in Bara area of Khyber. Cattle farming as a tradition have always been supporting the tribes in Khyber. The Mullagori marble deposits are one of the largest marble deposits of the world. Other mineral deposits in Khyber include soapstone, limestone, dolomite, ciliate, silica sand, barite, mica, and graphite. Marble deposits are found in Mullagori, Sultan Khel, Ghundai Sarand and Loe Shalman.
Soapstone is the second most important mineral of Khyber. The major deposit lies 7 kilometers from Jamrud Bazaar. The mineral production figures for the year 2014-2015 include 9260 tons marble, 1, 82, 160 tons of lime stone, 1200 tons of soapstone and 110 tons of barite. Khyber has a very low industrial base having only three industrial units of significance including the Bara Ghee Mills and two cigarette factories namely One More Cigarette Factory and Tatara Cigarette factory with a total employment estimated at 525 persons. There are other small silk processing units at Alam Gudar Bara, which is basically a cottage industry.
Khyber has been trade & business activities hub in the region because of sharing border area with Afghanistan (Torkham) and is contributing as a historical trade route, connecting the Asian sub-continent with the rest of Central Asia, via Afghanistan. Because of its geographical location, the agency has a history dating back thousands of years and is substantially increasing towards exports, creating job opportunities and has boosting our economy by increasing the Exports of different sector Products, The volume of Pak – Afghan Trade through Torkham Border is 5 Billion$ USD, which is a commendable performance.
